Great Dunmow is a historic market town, the second largest town in Uttlesford and the focal point for the south eastern part of the district. Dunmow – which means ‘Meadow on the Hill’ is originally the site of a Roman settlement and is located on the River Chelmer in North West Essex. The town sits midway between Bishop’s Stortford and Braintree and is approx six miles east of London Stansted Airport and the M11.
Surrounded by beautiful open countryside and pretty villages, Great Dunmow is very popular with commuters due to its easily accessible transport links to London coupled with its rural charm.
Braintree railway station (63 mins to London Liverpool Street Station) is approx eight miles away to the east. Nine miles to the west is Bishop’s Stortford railway station, offering a 45 minutes commute to London Liverpool Street, and a swift 35 minutes to Tottenham Hale.
Schooling is fantastic, offering two great primary schools - Dunmow St Marys in the centre of town and Great Dunmow Primary School in Woodlands Park Drive. There is also a very sought after secondary school, The Helena Romanes School which also benefits from a Sixth Form Centre.
